Lab: Looking at sand through a microscope

Archimedes Law: W(air)/(W(air)-W(water))
1. Sand in water
Characteristics:
- Colors: Brown, Green, White, and Clear
- Size: Varying sizes
- Appearance: Shiny
2. Dessert
- Colors: Pink, Tan, Gray, White, and Orange
- Size: Similar Size
Appearance: Very nice to look at! Looks like Himalayan Salt
3. Volcano
- Colors: Brown and Black
- Size: Most are about the same size some pieces are bigger than others
- Appearance: Pieces reflect the light
4. Beach Sand
- Colors: White, Pink, and Clear
- Size: Different sizes
- Appearance: Sizes vary
5. Hawaii Sand
- Colors: Clear, White, Black, Brown, and Green
- Size: Sizes vary
- Appearance: Speckled
6. Sand with Rock in it
- Color: Orange, Pink, and White
- Size: Similar Sizes
- Appearance: Very textured and round. The rock looks like many sand pieces smashed together
Characteristics of Sand:
Sand and water- polished, smooth, and similar size
Sand and glaciers- polished, smooth, irregular size
Sand and wind- opaque, frosted, pitted, and fine grained
